Working with Baby Whale
Office deliverables
Baby Whale builds files the way an analyst would: with code, against the real formats. That's why the results stay editable — the formulas are formulas, the charts are chart objects, the notes are in the notes pane.
The toolkit
| Tool | Format | What it produces |
|---|---|---|
xlsx_create | Excel · .xlsx | Live formulas, number formats, data bars, native charts, themed banners, multiple sheets. |
pptx_create | PowerPoint · .pptx | KPI stat slides, two-column layouts, native charts, speaker notes. |
docx_create | Word · .docx | Cover pages, callout boxes, banded tables, consistent heading styles. |
xlsx_read / csv_read / docx_text | Reads | Real analysis of files you upload — structure, values, and text, not guesses. |
Under the hood each file is generated by a Python script using openpyxl, python-pptx, or python-docx — you'll see the script in the session under Files written. The script is the source of truth: rerun it, edit it, or reuse it as a template.
One design system per pack
When a session ships multiple files — a workbook, a deck, and a summary doc — Baby Whale carries one topic-informed palette through all of them: same chart colors in the same order, identical title wording, matching date and currency formats. Titles use the same case and punctuation across cover page, title slide, and workbook banner. The pack reads as one designed set.
Where files land
Deliverables are written to deliverables/ in the session workspace:
my-workspace/
└── quarterly-review/ # session folder
├── uploads/ # what you attached
├── scripts/ # generated build scripts
└── deliverables/
├── q1-revenue.xlsx
└── q1-review-deck.pptxAsking well
- State the audience. "Exec review" and "working file" produce very different decks.
- State formats. "USD, yyyy-mm-dd" beats assuming.
- Name the shape. "5 slides, KPI stat on slide 1" or "summary tab plus one tab per region."
- Request recalculation-safe files. Totals as
=SUM(...), not pasted values — edits in Excel keep everything consistent.
Try the demo.
examples/whale-demo in the repository bundles a messy spreadsheet and a
walkthrough prompt — the fastest way to see the toolkit end to end.
